almost fall

This week in Monroe County Illinois is "almost fall" week. We seem to get one every August: the air is cooler - you can turn off the air conditioner. The kids are returning to school - big yellow buses are stopping you on your way into work. A heavy mist hangs over the fields in the morning as the cool air hits the warm earth. The tops of cornstalks turn golden - almost ready for the harvest. The sunset comes a little earlier than you remember it coming last week.

Almost fall is a season of its own. Almost real. Almost perfect.

In a week it will be summer all over again.
