On a pleasant summer evening, what could go down better than a cold glass of micro-brewed English inspired beer? The group Discover Historic Waterloo put on a grand Night At The Museums the evening of August 14, 2015. Matthew Schweizer, Hopskeller Brewmaster, gave an exhaustive and entertaining talk about the history of beer and beermaking in the historic surroundings of the Bellefontaine House, Waterloo Illinois.

It was a tour de force taking the audience from the earliest discovery of fermenting grains to concoct a tasty beverage that might complement raw meat up through more modern times when a frosty cold lager can bring out the finer points of a medium grilled cheeseburger.

An audience member pointed out to Mr. Schweizer that, in fact, in Waterloo Illinois: "We like our beer." The Brewmaster obliged by offering several samples of his delicious recipes including an Americanized English lager which I found to be superb. Or was it an Anglicized American Lager? Whichever, I'll take a case .
